P3

Welcome to P3!

Find out what we will be getting up to in Literacy, Numeracy and the World Around Us this term.

Autumn Term Literacy

During literacy we will look at the traditional tale of 'The Ugly Duckling' and write our own versions of this story.  We will structure our writing with a clear beginning, middle and end.  We will write our own poems about all the colours of the rainbow in our classroom!

We will practise saying the alphabet and learn the five vowels.  We will be able to sort a group of letters into alphabetical order.  We will find out about nouns and verbs.

P3 will have lots of fun in their phonics lessons by playing a variety of games and activities to improve their spelling.

Autumn Term Numeracy

We will be investigating number stories to 20 using numicom and will look for patterns in number.  We will broaden our range of mathematical vocabulary for addition and subtraction and solve simple number problems.  We will begin to try and explain our thinking and working out.

During mental maths sessions we will take part in a variety of mental maths games and activities to improve our confidence and ability in working with number.  We will learn doubles facts and be able to count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

We will learn about months, seasons and special days in the year.  We will learn to tell the time using an analogue clock and investigate the properties of 2d and 3d shape.

Autumn Term World Around Us

Our topic this term will be 'SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW'.

We will explore how a rainbow is made and find out about the different types of rainbows.  We will recreate rainbows using a variety of art media and through carrying out our own rainbow experiments!

We will discover how colours can be associated with seasons, plants, animals and landscapes.  We will have fun mixing colours and designing our own 'colour rainbow' for each season.  We will also investigate camouflage and research how some animals use colours and patterns to blend into their surroundings.

We will explore colour through ourselves and consider the colours that make each of us unique such as hair colour.  We will also consider how we can use colours to keep us safe and how colours can be assocatiated with emotions.

We will have fun predicting and investigating 'colours' through a variety of colour mixing experiments to find out about primary colours, secondary colours and different shades.
